LOIS BRINK, Chief Strategist
Lois Brink, Chief Strategist for The Big SandBox, is a landscape architect and a nationally recognized authority on schoolyard design and development.
Founder of the Learning Landscapes program in Denver, a multi-million dollar design initiative focused on interactive, hands-on learning and play at 96 public elementary schools, Brink is a tenured professor at the University of Colorado Denver, where she directed her graduate students in the master plans for Denver Public Schools’ elementary schools.
She is currently examining the sustainability of urban schoolyard redevelopment, collaborating with a Chicago schoolyard initiative, Space to Grow, and with the Philadelphia Water Department and School District. She created the Philadelphia Green Schools Alliance in Philadelphia; and with Dr. James Hill at the Anschutz Center for Health and Wellness, she has created the Active Environments program to further the work of Learning Landscapes. Brink received her B.A. and M.A. (Landscape Architecture) from the University of Pennsylvania. She has worked in the design industry for over 25 years.
