North Philadelphia is a vibrant predominantly black community with a rich heritage. While the neighborhood has struggled economically in the past, renewed focus is occurring in part by development pressures from Temple University to the East, and Brewerytown to the South. University of Colorado graduate landscape architecture students Liia Koiv-Haus, Haixu Li, Luis Navarrette worked alongside leaders and visionaries within the community to inspire neighbors and business owners alike to shoot hoops with students, draw and interpret full scale chalk-art blueprints on the asphalt, and most importantly, listen to the concerns of parents when it comes to the needs of a shared space. Students spent a week in October visiting schools and getting to experience to Philadelphia.
